With immense gratitude and respect for inventor Tim Jennison’s herculean dedication to testing out a theory that the great 17th century Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer, used mirror optics to create his groundbreaking masterpieces. Having seen the amazing film, “Tim’s Vermeer” (directed and produced by Penn & Teller) documenting Jennison’s obsessive journey, I noticed one very glaring ‘mistake’ in the Vermeer painting that reminded me of John Dee’s methodology in the Shakespeare subterfuge. I had a hunch Vermeer, like Dee, was using this seeming mistake to prod us to look deeper.
